Manon, age 11
I am a passionate artist who has grown up in NYC in a Franco-American household. Currently, I am in my senior year at Groton School and am working on my portfolio for the College Board’s AP 2-D Art. Since childhood, I have been obsessed with art, and constantly looked to explore my passion through my shared interest in photography with my mother, as well as drawing and painting on my own time. I have experimented with a variety of mediums, which led me to create mixed media pieces and help to explain these variations across my style and works. As described in my artist statement, my connection to the environment is inalienable and led me to my frequent contributions to many nonprofit organizations such as The Ocean Cleanup. I hope that my art is able to give back to this important cause, and convey my strong love for the environment throughout this development from childhood to the present.
The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organization focused on developing and scaling technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Every year, hundreds of thousands of tons of plastic enter the oceans, primarily from rivers. This plastic then floats atop these oceans’ surfaces, until over time they break down into microplastics. To effectively solve this plastic problem, this group is focused on both halting the trash flow from rivers, and removing legacy plastics from oceans at the same time.
Their incredible aim is to put themselves out of business once the world’s oceans are clean.
